I've never been in a restaurant that had more dishes on the menu with mushrooms than without. Frankly, if you are like me and allergic to mushrooms, don't even bother. Luckily, the daily special the day I went didn't have mushrooms, and the caprese salad was delicious, but the experience was just not worth the hefty price tag. Also, the live folk band murdered "Blackbird."

The herby garlic butter and bread is delicious (and free!) and I love their filo shrimp.

Please don't be deterred by the outside! I'm from Lakeview, so I'm familiar with the building and how many different places have occupied it. The food here is truly great! We split the mussels and Greek salad to start. There were about 10-12 mussels in a delicious tomato, red onion, and garlic sauce. The salad was nicely sized and the flavor again was perfect for the style. I ordered the redfish special topped with Gulf shrimp, which was perfectly cooked and again very tasty. My parents split the shrimp pasta dish; the name is eluding me. Once again, huge shrimp and a wonderful combination or spices. I should also mention that our server was great. All around this was a stellar dining experience.

Lovely spot, nice decor. We went for brunch. The poached eggs with creamed spinach and fried oysters was to die for! Delish! and the coffee was fantastic. Service was handsome, friendly and prompt. Will visit again.

Very consistent great food and service. All the trappings of fine dining at very reasonable prices. This location was the home of the Ground Pattie many years ago and since hosted a few food venues as well as a food market right after Katrina. It looks like they finally got it right!

While we hesitated on going to a non-traditional (it's owned by middle eastern brothers) restaurant for Thanksgiving Dinner we decided to try it . The service was terrible, the quality of the food was mediocre at best. It was a $26 plus per person ripoff, seriously. I definitely would not recommend, especially on a holiday. We agreed that we will stick to traditional American restaurants for future holidays or cook at home.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The food was good but it was like a ghost town in there making the place feel a little spooky. We walked in thinking the place was closed. Once we sat down ("Anywhere you'd like!") the waitress immediately took our drink order and we put in for our appetizer. The place looks really nice on the inside with agood looking bar and a fire place. We got the Mezes for an appetizer. This was babaghannoush, hummus and tabbouleh with pita bread to dip. All 3 were good. The tabbouleh was excellent and I had never heard of it before coming here. For entrees we decided to get a greek and caprese salad and split them. The greek salad is large and comes in a freshly baked bread bowl. The caprese salad is the usual mozzerella cheese, tomatoes with a vinagerette. The food was good but the menu is rather small. The place is nice but without people felt odd. Also the had Lifetime playing on the large tv at the bar. It was almost like soft core porn which really made the atmosphere feel worse. I've never been to the original location so maybe location is the issue.

Went for Sunday brunch today because the place we wanted to go had an hour wait. There were only two other customers which should have warned us. But we were hungry and just wanted eggs. So in we went. The waitress brought menus and water. Hubby ordered bfast special with scrambled eggs, toast and no meat. He asked for fruit and they didn't have any except what they said were fresh blueberries. I ordered French toast without whipped cream or fruit sauce but with the fresh berries on the side I also got an egg over medium. Oh my! The French toast was large chunks of po-boy bread about 2&1/2 inches thick. They were cold and lightly toasted and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. They did not appear to have been dipped in milk and egg batter as they were hard and dry when I cut into them . The egg was alright tho a bit runny. The blueberries were thawed out frozen berries -not fresh. My husband's eggs were a bit oily he said. The wheat toast was not toasted and the grits were a bowl of very hard and lumpy grits. The waitress never came back and checked on us. We gave up and got someone's attention to find our waitress and she brought the bill. Our credit card was out and waiting for her but she dropped the bill and took off. Attempts to get her back failed so we got up with the card and bill and took it to her at the bar where she was talking with other staff. She was a bit fussy about my husband taking the check and his card to her and told him he should have waited at the table. We won't be going back. Way to many good restaurants with great service in New Orleans.

Maple Cafe (by the owners of Maple Street Cafe uptown), just opened up a few days ago and we have been dying to try it out! Finally, something opened up in the old Salsas Por El Lago (which was a sad, sad place. Good riddance) and it's been packed with cars all week. This place has a Mediterranean-ish menu and has perfect date-appropriate atmosphere. It's fancy without being stuffy. Dinner was fantastic! We had the Eggplant Cake appetizer which was baaalllin' (I feel cliché calling it delicious). I had the Greek Salad for my entree, which came in a crispy-shelled white bread bowl. He had the Veal Nora which was pretty good too. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding was the size of a brick and went down way too easy. The sauce on it was MMMMmm The service was excellent and we'll be back! I feel like they definitely have their act together.

We had an okay dining experience. We had a party of six and there wasn't much else open in the area. The cafe has great decor and the staff is very inviting once you walk in. The food had mixed reviews amongst our party. I had the Angel Hair Ziad an angel hair pasta dish that had sun dried tomatoes, wild mushrooms, and gulf shrimp. My dish was on the saltier side and I'm not sure the shrimp was fully cooked since it was on the grayer side. The rest of the group ordered the Shrimp Phyllo, Chicken Pita, and two other pasta dishes Linguine Nora & Maple Street crawfish(one with chicken and the other crawfish). The shrimp in the phyllo seemed previously frozen instead of fresh as stated on the menu and the pita was falling apart before it was picked up to be eaten. The best, most consistent part of the meal was the hot bread. With the ingredients they offer in their dishes that have the ability to make the food they offer extraordinary. Instead I'm afraid that they are depending on frozen goods to fill their menu. Unfortunately with that the food will be overly salty and not fresh in taste. We were hungry and this is what we found closest to our area. It wasn't horrible but I also will say that I won't make it a point to ever go back. My hope is that the owners will see this and make the changes they need to make. Please do give them a chance and try them out.

Second time here and very pleased. They have really put some thought into their menu. The crawfish pasta was a nice twist from a typical NOLA restaurant (not that there is anything wrong with that). We also had the stuffed shrimp from the appetizer menu. This was like shrimp and stuffing wrapped in a pastry. Excellent combination of spicy and sweet. The waitress said that the wrapping was called philly dough. I'm not much on the bread budding here. The white chocolate sauce was good, but the bread itself was pretty boring.

No grits at brunch. Brought pancakes without butter. Champagne in mimosa flat. Hollandaise very light not rich.

Wow we avoided this place because of the sign.. it was the only thing open.. On thanksgiving for a quick snack ibn the harbor. Wow.. super nice inside two fire places and a friendly family. Then we ordered bar menu as they had a holiday dinner menu going. Everything was great. These tomatoes with homemade mozzarella and the shrimp stuffed was great. Luck find ..oh my daughter was in heaven with the key lime pie. We all agreed the sign and name seemed to much like it would be a Dennys cafe.. we felt this should rename to.. red roof inn bistro... or something more upscale less pancake syrupy sounding.......like what you find inside. Warmth and quality food. I loved the place and the people.

Was in New Orleans for 2 days and went here twice - mostly for the oysters almondine - wow - delicious. They also have what I would call a definitive bordelaise sauce. Wonderful creative dishes. Had an opportunity to speak with Chef West. He knows New Orleans!

The worst breakfast experience in a long time. Bacon was sitting in a pool of grease and the grits were tasteless. We had to ask for coffee refills, water, butter, jelly, etc. and we were the only occupied table in the place. Ill never go back.

One of the best values in town. Dined there at least 6 times in the last 2 months with visiting family from Florida. Chose it that many times because a table was always available and the food was that good. Oysters almandine, soft shell crab on angel hair or penne pasta, veal Nora, crawfish pasta, oso Buccio (sp?) Greek salad were recurring favorites. Friendly service. Don't know why the place is not packed with people. Lastly it's QUIET, so you can carry on a conversation

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
